Last night we headed out to First Night Austin. Like the bonehead I can often be, I have no pictures because I forgot my camera.
We really had a blast. It was as if everyone in Austin decided to meet up downtown and party. Lot’s of various events happening, like slam poetry, dance & art shows, tons of live music , puppet shows & chalk art for the kids etc. It was a bit cold, like 35 degrees. Thank God for coffee
We were hanging out listening to some music and some cool hippies started dancing. Of course a bunch of other people decided to join in, it was great scene…A bunch of strangers having fun, experiencing some sort of community and enjoying life.
I have to give the city of Austin props. We spent five hours downtown and spent a total of $10. So cool, they had free parking, free shuttle service, free water and soft drinks. They did a great job.
To ring-in the New Year, we decided to roll to 6th ST. From what I heard, there was some 100,000 people in downtown Austin last night. 6th ST. was packed, but felt safe and most folks were just having some good ole fun. Bands were playing on the rooftops of the local clubs, and people were in the streets just soaking in the atmosphere. (Although a few ladies decided to get a little crazy every now and then)
Of course, as a pastor I could not help but focus on some obvious spiritual issues. But I will save that post for another time.
I hope your New Years Eve was as good as mine.
Shalom
