I’m willing to bet that the last three groups share a significantly higher proportion of their food with extended family and other members of the community than the rest of the groups combined.

Got here via Ragamuffin Soul and am intrigued to find another Austinite who’s headed to Africa. But Africa’s not a country – where are you going? Safe travels!

the scop,

yes it is.

Texas,

So rad…let’s grab coffee in the future. I’m heading to S. Africa-Cape and Jo’burg and some small villages N. of Jo’burg.

Then we will go into Zimbabwe-close to Harare. We leave Thursday. Can’t wait. Thanks for stopping by the blog.

Yes, definitely. I’d love to hear more about what you’ll be up to there. SA is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Have a great trip!

Chris,

That’s a great message. I know that God will do some amazing things in your life on this trip. Be careful, being there will change you in ways you cant begin to imagine. Be in every moment, try to let yourself just release all the thoughts of home, work, etc… and just be in that moment. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful all at once.

p.s. Can I steal this for my students? We’re doing a student trip back to Malawi in June and this would be some great set up.

See you soon – can’t wait until you get here! All you blog readers keep praying for Chris and the other three Texans coming with him – our South African friends are definitely expecting some giant cowboy hats and shiny boots. I’m afraid Chris is going to be a big disappointment. :)

These are great images to illustrate how crazy the contrast is. I just finished reading “Red Letters” by Tom Davis a couple of days ago, and just posted on it this morning. We (the church) have to step up on the issue of world poverty especially in light of our abundance.

Great post, thanks for sharing them. I saw the original source on the link you provided earlier for those interested in learning more about this.

Wow! That’s amazing. I can attest to that living in Uganda for a summer in college. You can get by with a whole lot less. Because life is not about stuff for them. They don’t waste like we do. They make good use of the God-given resources they have. And I’m still learning and relearning this principle!
