I was reading the book of Colossians this morning and I was reminded that God has called me to live a life “worth of the Lord.” The good news: I don’t have to do that with my own strength…The bad news: My flesh hates the things of God. Therefore there is a daily war that takes place in the life of Christ-followers. The scripture says,“the flesh counts for nothing but the Spirit gives life.”
So today will I choose to walk in the flesh or the Spirit? There are many attributes to walking in the Spirit such as:
1. Humility: I see Jesus as a humble-warrior. That helps me understand “how” I’m to walk in humility. True humility brings resolve to love and serve, but to also see the Kingdom of God advance.
2. Brokenness: I’m a sinner, to often I choose the way of the world over the way of Christ. Therefore I must be broken over my sins, I have to understand the price that Jesus paid on the cross. I can’t allow myself to forget that moment and sacrifice. Therefore I repent daily and seek forgiveness of sins and I pray that my life and actions would glorify Jesus.
3. Life of prayer: When I don’t pray, I’m more open to the attacks of the enemy. Prayer reminds me to trust in God. Prayer also reminds me of my own sin and selfishness. Pray keeps me centered in the Kingdom of God.
4. Mission: I think we’ve done a disservice to the saints. Over the past decade many Christ-followers seem to be in panic mode over their gifts and calling. While I think its great that we’ve tried to define our gifts and calling, I think we forget that were called to love and serve Jesus and humanity everyday. No matter what the circumstances are, living a life “worthy” of Jesus is missional. Yes mission is about “doing,” but it’s also about “being.”
