I have a deep passion for the local church. I’ve given much of who I am to the local church. My family has sacrificed deeply for the local church. It’s truly a privilege and honor. But I also have a passion for the global church. Somehow I want to be a part of both. A lot of folks consider HELP to be a para-church organization, which is cool. However I just don’t see it that way. HELP will always be rooted in the local church-both locally in American and globally. My concern is that we’ve reduced the local church to Sunday gatherings and small group get-together and the occasional outreach or mission trip and we somehow feel like that is the “true” local church.
Can’t you be a part of a so-called “missions organization” and still consider that organization the local church? Usually when you’re global and on-mission life is a bit more complex. While I was in Cairo I remember having an illegal Bible Study with a group of local Egyptians. We prayed together, fellowship and worshiped God, and served the poor. Is that not the church?
I see HELP as another layer of the local church. I don’t see it as the center. I’m not suggesting that we’re a Church and I’m a pastor of a certain number of followers. But I also don’t think we should be defined as a para-church.
Thoughts? Am I missing something?

All of Christ's followers are the church. Right? I think the local church is wherever you are at. If I'm in Cairo, I'm in the local church. If I'm in Hendersonville,TN that's my local church. So what is Cairo when I'm in Hendersonville,TN? Is it someone else's local church or my global church, it was my local church at one time?
Your sacrifice and my sacrifice isn't just for the local church, it's also for the global church. The building up of God's Kingdom. So aren't they the same?
Humans have a habit of having to label something because it looks slightly different. Parachurch, local church, global church. All should have the same goal and are "the church". Where the "local church" has missed it is thinking that was the end result and reduced the church to a building and some people inside.
I think this is like what you are saying. You don't like labels. Me neither. Jesus didn't come to setup multiple churches. We are all to be involved in helping the poor sick and afflicted together.
