Today we pause, remember and celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Tomorrow our nation will make history as Barack Obama will become President and possibly the most powerful man in the world. Yet two weeks ago Oscar Grant was gunned down in Oakland by a white police officer. Oscar was lying on the floor, face-down when he was executed.
Barack Obama gives us hope, the hope that Martin Luther King, Jr desired, wanted, prayed for. But Oscar Grant reminds us we have a long way to go. As we celebrate and reflect, let us also pray and seek greater ways to love and serve each other.
