Dude, I completely agree…and the scary thing about this is that often times it will "shrink" what you are trying to build before it builds it…because of this attitude i was successful at growing a group from 30 to 20 in a matter of 8 months, but those 20 would have traveled through fire with me…it was small, but lean…it was great…Good word brother…good word

I like this sentence: "These church-goers need to somehow embrace the reality that they are now missionaries and the church is a place to gather and send, not listen and learn." We are so convenience driven that church has become a website to read, a moral haven for our kids, a product to serve our spiritual needs. Instead, the church is a community of grace that compels us to love and serve one another, the city, and the world. Perhaps the problem is that we see it, even as a "place" to gather and send, instead of a people with whom we are interdependent and sent. I know this is the spirit of what you are saying.

I would also insert a "just" into your statement, Chris. The church is a place to gather and send, JUST not listen and learn." The cyclical letters, sermons, and schools of the NT certainly show that listening and learning was a big part of church gatherings.

Chris, I am posting this whole page on my blog. Couldn't have said it better myself. I do agree with the statement about "gather and send", but I changed it and added this to all my outgoing e-mails. "Gather and send, don't just listen and learn". P.S. Is this your quote or another author? Just want to give credit bro.
