Blog readers. I sent these prayer request out to Help End Local Poverty’s prayer supporters. You can also support us through prayer by clicking here and signing-up. We covet your prayers and need your support.

Below are some key request that you can specifically seek God for on our behalf. Our passion is rescue homeless orphans across the globe (http://www.campaigntoendpoverty.org/) and restore their lives through long-term monthly support. (info coming soon)

Please pray for:

1. Favor with man and God. As we launch our ministry in public spaces, please as God for favor as we cast vision and rally support to serve the global poor.

2. 250 orphans supported through our Help One Now Initiative in 2009. (website launching soon).

3. Raise $40,000 to build a new orphanage in Zimbabwe through our Campaighn to End Poverty initiative. (http://www.campaigntoendpoverty.org/) If you know of churches or small groups that would be willing to be involved please let me know.

4. Pray for 100 donors. These donors will support our ministry financially on a month-to-month basis.

5. Pray for wisdom, health and spiritual fervor for the leadership team of Help End Local Poverty.

6. Pray for our friends in Zimbabwe. Life is not good there and they need help and support. Especially pray for Pastor John and Orpha as they lead and serve close to 100 orphans in the midst of a bankrupt economy and country that has totally collapsed. They lack the basics like food, water and electricity. But still, God is doing something amazing in the midst of the chaos.

Again, thank-you for serving and supporting HELP!

Till next month!

Over the past few weeks I’ve found a rhythm that seems to be producing much fruit and peace. For me as an Elder I take my responsibility serious. I desperately want to know God and become a seeker of God. I start my morning in prayer, Bible reading and theological reflection. (It’s been 10 years since I was in Bible College-its easy to forget)

In order to keep the morning routine fresh and sacred I utilize the following websites: Sacred Space – Daily Prayer Online & The Daily Office. Both of these websites have scripture reading, songs, repentance, Apostles Creed and the Lord’s Prayer etc. I don’t always use them, but they add much value when I do.

The goal is not to “do” but to “be.” I don’t worry about time or feel like I have to accomplish a ton. I just want to settle-down and connect with God.

Also, I always pray for my friends both locally and globally. Again this causes me not be narcissistic. Sometimes our days are so focused on self and what we have to accomplish. When I pray for my friends globally and locally it helps me live their story and remember others.

For instance this morning I prayed for Jacob and Soma. I prayed for my connection in Egypt and for a church planter by the name of McDonald (sp?) in Cape Town and my friends in Raleigh-Visio Dei.

I feel very “centered” when I start my day by slowing-down and embracing prayer. Rhythm

I really enjoyed these thoughts from Sacred Space this morning:

The strange story of Jesus’ Transfiguration on Mount Tabor describes what we would call ‘a peak experience.’ The three witnesses, Peter, James and John, are bowled over by the sense of exaltation, light and happiness. Peter wants to build a tent there. He wants to keep it this way. ‘Not so’, says Jesus. Actually it can never be so. Down the mountain they must slide. The transfiguration is a reminder that nothing in this world is static or permanent. Living beings change and move. We are forever in the business, not of holding on, but of letting go. We may think that, by owning or capturing or tent-building, we can make the party last forever. Not so. Our God can never be held or locked in a tent. Our God lives with us and lovingly moves through time with us. That is why moments like birthdays, or times of togetherness, remind us that God’s light shines from within us all. They are moments to remember with joy.

This could be epic for the country of Zimbabwe. Let’s hope it sticks.

According to friends who live in Zimbabwe, tensions are high. So please continue to pray for peace. I know for many Americans it’s hard to look outside our own issues, but please remember that the church exists in Zimbabwe just as it does here and our brothers and sisters need to hope for a better future. We complain about gas prices, they pray about daily food and clean water. They really do need us to love and support them.
When I do my daily devotions, I always spend time praying for friends and global issues that are vital to the Kingdom. Friends in Cairo, Budapest, Cape Town, Ecuador and Zimbabwe. I also pray for friends who are planting churches here in America. Sometimes I will even read blogs and pray for the bloggers and their faith community.

It’s a way for me to bless others and not be so self-centered on my own wants and needs.

As we continue to move forward with Help End Local Poverty I wanted to actually take some time to stop and pause. This morning I’ve been asking myself some really key questions:

How do I allow Jesus to be the leader. Ultimately my biggest role is to obey Him in all things.

I know spiritual battles will take place and I want to be aware of that.

In order to raise 5 million in 5 years it’s going to take some major sacrifice and leadership-I’m not where I need to be as a leader and follower of Jesus. What do I need to do to position myself to be that guy who can accomplish the vision?

How does this organization engage the city of Austin and propel global church planting movements.

So…here is what I’m asking. This Monday and Tuesday I’m going to fast for Help End Local Poverty. Will you join me? Can you fast one meal or maybe one day? If so please leave a comment.

Monday I will blog some prayer request. And if you have some personal prayer needs, feel free to leave them in the comments and I will post them so we can pray together for our needs.

Let me know if you’re on board.

...

I’ve come to the unfortunate conclusion that it’s almost impossible for me to seek silence and solitude without being distracted. I hate this, my mind races so fast with so many thoughts…Somehow I need to overcome this and be able to sit in silence and be a seeker of Jesus and not run like a mad-man trying to accomplish anything and everything.

As I get older I’m really trying to understand the importance of time. I want no regrets when I’m an old man. But in order to find sustainable rhythms I need to be plugged-in too the one who can sustain me. And at this point I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in constant communication-I feel like I really pray throughout the day. But I just want to have the discipline to sit before Jesus. Once again the”less-is-more” principle is making sense to me.

I think in order to work hard I need to learn how to rest hard. My friends in Zimbabwe helped me see this. They have many needs and much vision. Yet they are filled with joy and peace.

If you have any tips please pass them on.

If you’re looking for a little “spice” to your spiritual life…Mars Hill may be able to help you out. They’ve created a Daily Advent Experience.

My main objection over the next few weeks is to really slow down and connect with God. I have so much on my mind and I really don’t want to rely on myself, but hand some stuff over to God.

I hope and pray that in the busy of the holiday season, you would also stop, pause, pray, seek, sit, listen, learn and be silent before Jesus.
